Night Sky of Full Lunar Blood Moon Eclipse

What is an eclipse?

An eclipse occurs whenever the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are in exact alignment to each other. There are two types of eclipses that we can see here from Earth.

The first type is called a Solar Eclipse and occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth. Solar Eclipses always occur on the New Moon.

The second type is called a Lunar eclipse and occurs when the Earth is between the Sun and the Moon. Lunar Eclipses always occur on the Full Moon.

Eclipses come in pairs. So we get a Solar eclipse followed by a Lunar eclipse a couple of weeks later and this occurs about twice each year making 4 eclipses per year on average. This has to do with the orbit of the Earth around the sun to create the correct alignment. Due to this special alignment, only certain parts of the Earth may actually witness the entire eclipse or part of the eclipse. Lunar eclipses are usually the easiest to view as we can look directly at the Moon but Solar eclipses need solar filters in order to not damage your eyes. The best way to see a solar eclipse is with solar glasses that you can buy online but a telescope and paper pad on an easel can also be used to see a shadow representation of the eclipse easily as well.

Why are eclipses important astrologically?

Originally ancient emperors, kings, and rulers wanted to know if certain planetary combinations could be used to predict wars, famines, times of peace or prosperity, or special events. Tracking and research of just this topic has been done for thousands of years. One of the first noticeable predictors was eclipses because they have such a powerful effect on the events of the Earth. Any other planets involved with the eclipse by mathematical angle had an effect on the type of event that occurred and this was studied by the ancient Babylonian scientists as well.

Eclipses amplify the energy of a new moon or full moon in astrology and can even be felt sometimes 1 month before or 1 month after the eclipse to the day. The energy set in motion at the eclipse is usually not easy to change and will cause us to change path on a dime because of what we experience or learn at the time of the eclipse.

Eclipses in general are a signal or symbol for change and often coincide with positive or negative dramatic events. These events can be larger in scope and occur to the world at large (like a war, or a peace treaty) or more personal in scope and occur to the person who’s birth chart is being affected. This is a time when fate takes a hand and can directly influence how things play out for you. People often experience beginnings or endings of things during eclipses so it’s a good time to keep your eyes wide open to the subtleties of life looking for the opportunity in it for you. This is true even if you don’t perceive the advantage at the time of the event. Often, you can see the benefit to you a little later on when you have had time to reflect on things more and see how they played out for you.
